Dr. Cynthia Nicol is a Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy in the UBC Faculty of Education. With teachers and communities her goal is to make the teaching and learning of mathematics (the M in STEM) more relational and responsive for all learners. She studies approaches that support teachers in place and community-based initiatives including culturally responsive mathematics education, social justice mathematics teacher education, and ecojustice pedagogies. Her STEM related research also includes exploring the role of mathematics education in interpreting and changing the world toward a more ecologically sustainable future.
